About the browser hash generator
The Web Crypto API computes the digest in your browser and displays hexadecimal or Base64 output. Hashing is one-way but is not safe password storage by itself.
How to use it
- Paste text or choose a local file.
- Pick the algorithm — SHA-256 unless the other side specifies otherwise.
- Generate and read the digest in hex or Base64.
- Compare against the published value character by character, or copy yours for publication.
Useful for
- Verify a downloaded file against the SHA-256 its publisher lists.
- Generate a checksum to publish next to your own release.
- Confirm two files are byte-identical without diffing their contents.

Browser Hash Generator FAQ
Which SHA algorithm should I use?
SHA-256 is the everyday standard for file integrity and matches what most projects publish. SHA-384/512 are fine too; MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security purposes and are deliberately absent here.
Can I hash passwords with this?
Please don’t — password storage needs salted, deliberately slow hashing (argon2, bcrypt, scrypt). A fast general-purpose SHA digest is the wrong tool, and the page says so rather than letting you find out the hard way.
Is my file uploaded to be hashed?
No. The Web Crypto API computes the digest entirely in your browser.
