Data Size Converter FAQ
So who is lying, the drive maker or the OS?
Neither: makers use SI (10¹² bytes = 1TB, correctly), many OSes count in binary (2⁴⁰ = 1TiB) while SAYING GB. The 7% gap is a labelling schism, not theft — and this table is the peace treaty.
Which should I use?
Networking and storage marketing speak decimal; memory and file systems often binary. When precision matters, write GiB/TiB explicitly — the i is the whole message.
