HTML Entities Encoder/Decoder FAQ
When do I actually need entities now?
Less than the 2005 tutorials claimed: UTF-8 handles characters natively. The living needs are the structural five (& < > " ') when displaying markup AS text, and feeds/emails with dubious encoding declarations.
Named or numeric entities?
Named (£) are readable; numeric (£) are universal — every entity has a number, only some have names. The all-non-ASCII toggle uses numeric for exactly that reason.
