What this tool does
About the find & replace tool
Literal mode is the safe default; regular-expression mode requires an explicit switch. Match counts and the unchanged original remain visible.
How to use it
- Paste the source text, the search term and the replacement.
- Stay in literal mode unless you explicitly need regular expressions.
- Check the match count and the preview against the untouched original.
- Copy the result once the changes look right.
Useful for
- Swap a name, URL or term throughout a document you are editing outside a proper editor.
- Run a regex replacement on text without opening an IDE.
- Preview how many matches a pattern hits before committing to the change.

Find & Replace Tool FAQ
Why is literal mode the default?
Because dots, brackets and dollars mean things in regex, and a “simple” replace can silently rewrite the wrong text. Literal mode does exactly what it says; regex is one deliberate switch away.
Which regex flavour does the pattern mode use?
JavaScript’s — the browser engine runs it. Flags are validated and runaway patterns are bounded, so a catastrophic expression fails fast instead of freezing the tab.
