What is a good WPM?
40 is average, 60 solidly productive, 80+ fast, 100+ party trick. Accuracy rules everything though: 70 WPM at 90% accuracy loses to 60 at 99% in real work, because corrections cost triple.
Why word-scoring instead of characters?
It matches how typing actually fails (whole-word fumbles) and resists the cheat of mashing near-misses. Standard WPM normalisation (5 chars = 1 word) is applied underneath — the number is comparable to other tests.
