What this tool does
About the canonical tag checker
Paste a head fragment or canonical value plus its page address. The tool checks syntax, multiplicity, fragments and simple self-reference conditions locally.
How to use it
- Paste the page head (or just the canonical link element) into the checker.
- Add the page URL if the canonical is relative, so it can be resolved to an absolute address.
- Review the assessment: syntax, multiple canonicals, fragments and self-reference are each tested.
- Correct the markup and re-check until the canonical resolves exactly where you intend.
Useful for
- Confirm a template change did not ship two canonical tags or a canonical pointing at the wrong variant.
- Resolve a relative canonical against the real page URL to see the absolute address crawlers will use.
- Check staging markup before release when duplicate-content risk is on the line.

Canonical Tag Checker FAQ
Is a canonical tag a directive Google must follow?
No — it is a strong hint. Google can pick a different canonical if signals disagree, which is exactly why the tag should be consistent with redirects, sitemaps and internal links.
Should every page have a self-referencing canonical?
It is a common, sensible default because it protects against URL-parameter duplicates. This checker confirms the self-reference resolves correctly when you provide the page URL.
Does the tool fetch my page?
No. It analyses only what you paste, locally in the browser.
