About the subscription cost calculator

Add each service, price and billing interval to compare unlike schedules on one basis. The calculator contains no vendor catalogue, renewal price or cancellation rule.

Method
Monthly Equivalent
price / billing-period months
Annual Cost
monthly equivalent × 12
Cost Per Use
annual cost / annual uses
Assumptions
  • Prices and uses refer to the same chosen currency and forward-looking year.
  • Weekly billing uses 52 weeks per year and monthly equivalents use 12 months per year.
  • Price changes, taxes, trials, refunds and cancellation terms are included only when entered.

How to use it

  1. Add each subscription with its price and billing interval.
  2. Add how often you actually use each one, if you want per-use costs.
  3. Read the table: monthly equivalent, annual cost, cost per use.
  4. Sort by annual cost and ask each line to justify itself.

Useful for

  • Line up every subscription you pay for and see the honest annual total.
  • Compare a monthly plan against its annual discount on one basis.
  • Find the cost per use of a service you barely open — the cancellation argument in one number.

Subscription Cost Calculator FAQ

Why does the annual total always shock people?

Subscriptions are priced to feel small monthly. Twelve “just £9.99” services is £1,438 a year — normalising unlike billing periods onto one annual line is precisely the un-hiding this tool does.

What is a reasonable cost per use?

Compare it against the alternative: a £15/month service used twice is £7.50 a visit — fine for a gym, absurd for streaming. The number has no universal threshold; it exists to make the comparison possible.
