Roman Numeral Converter FAQ
Why do clocks show IIII instead of IV?
Watchmaking tradition — visual balance with VIII opposite, plus centuries of habit. Everywhere else the subtractive IV rules, and the converter follows the standard while telling you this story.
Why stop at 3999?
Standard notation has no clean way past MMMCMXCIX — larger values used overlines (V̄ = 5000), which render unreliably. The tool covers the range the notation actually handles well.
