All four with the working shown — and which to quote, explained.

How to use it

  1. Paste numbers — spaces, commas or lines.
  2. Read mean, median, mode and range.
  3. Compare mean and median: a big gap means outliers.
  4. Quote the one that answers your actual question.

Useful for

  • Average a set of quotes, scores or timings.
  • Get the honest “typical” with the median.
  • Spot the outlier by comparing mean vs median.

Average Calculator FAQ

Mean or median — which do I quote?

Median for “typical” (salaries, house prices — one billionaire wrecks a mean); mean for totals shared evenly (splitting costs). Mode answers “most common”. The gap between them IS information.

Why does my mean look wrong?

It probably isn’t — one extreme value drags it hard. Check the range line: a wide range with mean far from median is the outlier signature.
